To introduce the topic of diabetes, I want to tell you the story of how the glycocalyx therapeutic supplement was developed because, my goal is not only to encouraging you to get the vitality of your glycocalyx tested but to ultimately encourage you to take the therapeutic supplement that has been proven to repair and protect it.
So the story is about a man named Bob Long. Bob owned stock in a large company that was bought out. So he had money but he didn’t have the best of health. He was an overweight diabetic with heart disease. Everytime he exerted himself, even to walk up a slight hill, he would experience heart pain. When he told his doctor about it, he was, of course, scheduled to have an angiogram. The doctors told him that if they found a lot plaque, they would insert stents into the arteries of his heart. These are spring load cages that open up clogged arteries.
His doctors put him under and inserted a camera into the arteries of his leg. They pushed this camera up into the arteries of his heart and they did whatever surgeons do when they are poking around inside you. When Bob woke up from anaesthesia, the doctor said, “I have good news and and bad news. The good news is that there is nothing wrong with your heart. There is no cholesterol plaquing. The bad news is I have no idea what’s wrong with your heart. But here’s a drug you can take to help with the symptoms.” Bob, said, nyee, let me think about it.
Bob went home and in the following months he literally became a lay expert in heart disease. He read all the medical and research journal articles he could find on the subject. In fact, he did what many researcher don’t even do. He read everything he could from many disciplines of science gaining insight as he read about heart disease from many different scientific perspectives.
As he read all these journal articles, he kept coming across the work of Dr. Hans Vink’s. In reading all the research and especially the work of Dr. Vink, Bob realized that his heart disease was not due to plaquing in the large arteries of the heart but rather damage to the small capillaries. Historically, the problem with the study of cardiovascular diseases is that doctors and researchers have focused for decades on 1% of the system. Over 99% of the cardiovascular system, the system of capillaries, was virtually being ignored. Fortunately, great researchers like Dr. Vink are drawing more and more attention to the incredible importance of capillary and glycocalyx health.
So Bob being the self-educated expert, knew what the glycocalyx was made of. He also knew a lot about how it functioned and behaved. He decided that he would formulate his own therapeutic. He did and he took his own formula for about 5 months. Then one day he called Hans Vink at the University of Maastricht in the Netherlands. He called him because, Dr Vink was using a microscope video camera to test the vitality and health of the glycocalyx. And Bob wanted his Glycocalyx tested. He told Dr. Vink, that he was a fan of his and that he would like to visit him in the Netherlands and test the health of his glycocalyx. Dr. Vink consented and Bob flew over there.
Dr. Vink, however, took one look at Bob and in his characterically blunt honesty, said, “you obviously like your American cheeseburgers and fries. As an overweight diabetic, you will likely have a bad score.” And by bad score Dr. Vink meant, that his glycocalyx would likely be very damaged. Dr. Vink has developed an algorithm which once all the test results are gathered provides a score called the microvascular health score or MVHS. The lower the score the more damaged the glycocalyx.
Dr. Vink performed the test on Bob by placing this microscope video camera under his tongue and magnifying the capillaries to the extent that individual blood cells could be visualized flowing through the vessels. This camera takes video clips of 3000 small capillaries and the computer program makes 3000 calculations on the data and gives a score. So Dr. Vink performed this test on Bob. And you can imagine how perplexed Dr. Vink was when this overweight diabetic’s score was the best he had ever seen when it should have been one of the worst. You have to understand that Dr. Vink was mostly testing relatively healthy young university students--not middle-aged, overweight, diabetics. Yet Bob’s score was better than theirs. Bob of course explained that he was cheating. He was taking a therapeutic supplement that he had formulated on his own. And it appeared to be working to working. Dr. Vink was stunned and even a bit emotional. He had spent 30 years of his life documenting the degeneration of the glyclocalyx. He had no idea you could rebuild it. To make a long story short, Dr. Vink and Bob Long formed a partnership. Dr. Vink refined the formula and now the improved formula is available to the public.
Now, I told you this story for a couple of reasons. First, it’s interesting to learn the history of such a discovery and second more importantly, it demonstrates an amazing potential of this therapeutic. Is it possible that this therapeutic can protect against the ravages of such a destructive disease as diabetes? Well, though, studies have not yet been done, it appears it might. Bob, has diabetes. Yet the small vessels and glycocalyx the diabetes should have destroyed in Bob are healthy and robust. In fact prior to taking his own therapeutic, Bob was developing retinopathy. But since taking the glycocalyx therapeutic, the small capillaries of his retinas are repairing. So, even before double-blind, placebo-controlled, crossover studies are performed, it appears that this therapeutic might, not only be protecting against damage to the small vessels due to diabetes, but repairing them. About 30 million people suffer with diabetes in the United States. That’s one out of every 10 adults over the age of 20. That’s huge. So to recap, damage to the glycocalyx may not necessarily cause diabetes but it is quite possible that repairing the glycocalyx may prevent the damage to the body from the diabetes.
